How to prepare emails for an employment tribunal bundle

Your emails never leave your computer.

Short answer: Export the relevant emails as one PDF per email in date order, keep the attachments as the original files, and use the index to build the bundle's list of documents. Gather the emails

Put the emails relevant to the claim into one folder or label: messages with your manager, HR, colleagues and any grievance or disciplinary correspondence. Include your replies, which are in the Sent folder.

Export them in date order

  1. Open emails2pdf.com/app, connect the mailbox (or upload .pst, .mbox, .eml or .msg files), and choose the folder and the dates of the dispute.
  2. Export. The PDFs are numbered oldest first with the date in each file name, so they are already in the order a bundle uses.
  3. index.xlsx lists every email with its date, sender, recipients and subject: a ready starting point for the bundle index.
  4. Page numbers

Bundles are cited by page. The combined PDF numbers its pages from start to finish, and the index gives each email's bundle pages. With Pro, every page across the export carries a running number (E2P-000001 onwards) and the index records each email's page range.

Questions

Can I use emails from my work account?

Only in line with your employer's policies and the law that applies to you; take advice if unsure. If you still have access, you can export them; personal Gmail or Outlook accounts can be exported the same way.

Do attachments go in the bundle?

Usually the relevant ones do, next to the email they came with. Emails2PDF saves each attachment as the original file in a folder named after its email, so they stay together.
